Pop or Passion?

I loved Seth Godin's simple explanation about choosing a marketing direction Click here for article

One of my biggest mistakes is not focusing specifically on the target and trying to capture everyone. This helps make the issue much clearer. Thanks, Seth Godin!

Affiliate Questions

I researched Allposters, CafePress, TextLinkAds, and RocketProfits affiliate programs. I chose to join RocketProfits because I liked the variety of merchants and offers.

Here is what I learned:

1) What is the fee or commission structure?
A: Flat Fee commission up to $40.

2) How frequently are payments made to Affiliates?
A: Your first check will be sent to you when you reach $25.00 in affiliate commissions, and each pay period thereafter in which you make at least $25 in affiliate commissions. You get paid EVERY month on net 15 terms, which means checks will be sent by the 15th of the following month via US Mail (for example, on October 15th you would get paid for commissions earned from the month of September). You must generate $25.00 or more in total commission from affiliate commissions and referral bonuses. Larger affiliates can have payments wired as fast as Net 1 from the end of the month.

3) Are there any restrictions on the types of marketing tools an affiliate can use?
A: Each offer has its own set of restrictions, listed clearly on the offer for your convenience. At the main offer page, "Media" column, each offer has the media available listed upfront as E,B,T (E=E-mail, B=Banner, T=Text). Once you click through into a specific offer, you can view all the creatives available, and any specific restrictions are listed on this page as well. Should you have any specific questions upfront, please feel free to contact your account manager.

4) What are terms under which the merchant can terminate the affiliate agreement?
A: The agreement can terminate at any time, with or without cause, by giving RocketProfittm written notice of termination via e-mail. RocketProfittm may terminate this Agreement and your license hereunder without notice at any time. Members are only eligible to earn Commissions on billings generated during the term of this Agreement. Upon any termination of this Agreement, any and all licenses granted hereunder shall immediately expire.

Busy Week!

Here we are, five weeks into Practical-Internet-Marketing already! This was a busy week, I started field research for a San Diego Beaches website I'm developing by going to Imperial Beach, Silver Strand, and Coronado Island for pics, interviews with locals, and scouting out the businesses along the boardwalks. My article was finally approved and made public on ezinearticles.com, I also learned how to post Adsense ads on this blog and I finally got caught up on reading my newsfeeds on bloglines. I've also been researching affiliate programs, like ebay and others through clickbank. Whole new world out there.

New Discoveries on my Internet Business path

Scrolling and clicking through the links on my Practical Internet Marketing class website after class last Thursday, led me to SBI!, Site Build It! It's listed as a great suite of tools for affiliate marketing in the recommendation. OK...what does that mean?...I asked myself.

Well, after spending days reading all their pages and researching Ken Evoy and his internet business, I took the plunge and signed up with their affiliate program and, then, I plunked down the 300 bucks and became an SBI! site business owner.I am currently on day 2 of the tutorials.

The tutorials are a take-you-by-the-hand set of instructions, which I find very comforting since I am usually jumping around new sites like a ping pong ball, usually accomplishing nothing and spending a massive amount of time doing it.

I have no idea exactly where this new venture will lead, but I will let you know. My plan is to get a website up and running within the next week and then start working on spending time in the affiliate tutorials, learning what that is all about.

Hopefully, by the end of this semester in about a month or so, I will be able to say that I have a functional online 'info-preneur' site generating traffic and conversions and also be generating leads for the affiliate program. Even if I don't make money on these activities, I will be glad to know how to do this stuff.
